<p>The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday dismissed a PIL seeking directions to allow Ganesha idols made of Plaster of Paris (POP) and painted idols to be allowed to be immersed in places identified by the BBMP. <br /><br />The petitioner, Bengaluru Mahanagara Ganesh Utsava, had challenged the notice of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board which had imposed a ban on use of POP idols and painted idols. The board had issued directions to take possession of unsold idols made of POP, shred them and send them to landfills. <br /><br />A division bench comprising Chief Justice S K Mukherjee and Justice P S Dinesh Kumar, dismissed the PIL stating that the decision of BBMP to ban POP and painted idols is correct as such idols affect the lakes and the environment.<br /><br /></p>
